The Wanderer Poem by Paul Warren

The Wanderer

I awoke beside the dusty hard road
Walking walking forward it endlessly flowed
For the task has been set for me
The open road ahead it will be

From sundown to sunup I go
My burden is not only for show
Counting each step focuses my mind
Searching for the sign it will unkind

For my innocence was a long gone memory
And so was the time when I was free
Left to wander alone into the night
With no rest or thanksgiving light

You may see me a sunrise or sundown
When the shadows lengthen along the ground
My destiny will remain unfulfilled
As my journey continues as time congealed.
