Wow, Liza, this is a beautifully crafted poem unfolding with a single-minded theme of surrender to God. But is this God's planned destiny for us, that we enclose ourselves, cut off consciousness of the world, interaction with others and sleep away time while dreaming of an alternative world with none of the hardships or temptations or delights of the existing world. I realize you make Christ the maker and guardian of the snow castle in which you sleep and dream but experience nothing spiritual or material, only the stuff of dreams. Isn't this frozen sleep like the Land of the Lotus-eaters, in the ODYSSEY, who choose sleep, comfort, safety but have no mission to fulfill, no purpose in their unconscious existence. Listen to the closing four lines of Milton's PARADISE LOST: THE WORLD WAS ALL BEFORE THEM, WHERE TO CHOOSE THEIR PLACE OF REST, AND PROVIDENCE THEIR GUIDE. THEY HAND IN HAND WITH WANDERING STEPS AND SLOW, THROUGH EDEN TOOK THEIR SOLITARY WAY. Adam and Eve are entering the world not hiding from it. And after the Fall they exercise their FREEDOM with God's guidance, and the first exercise of that freedom is to choose where to sleep. And freedom will characterize their wide-awake actions, which they will do together, in cooperation, and their closeness is emphasized THEY HAND IN HAND.
