sandra, why does this happen? in my place kerala, we have the most educated number of muslim women. but the number of pardah-clad omen are increasing day by day. some people say that they waer it because of religios threats. some as fashion.. some as truely religios ethics... but sad...they are mere sex-toys with suppressed freedom...your concern is true....almost all religions are male domonated... all are cracks.......

a flawless english, a flawless thought and flawless communication. you are superb. your biography is insufficient lacking gender, bith place age ete. shan
I perfectly agree with the plea. But I am reminded of a line from As You Like It that goes something like this - beauty provoketh thieves sooner than gold - I think safeguard should have been the prime motive at that time. Anyway, your style is superb. CP
This poem hits my heart deeply. I've tried to keep up with the unbelievable laws that go on over there with woman. I can't understand why a lot of the other nations in this world hasn't done their part to save these woman ages ago. great wrte in pointing out what goes on in this world.
Injustice under the eyes of some horrendous law..reflected thru ur poem
i looked to a more positive conclusion...say, the young woman's words having some impact on the older woman perhaps?
Written with sensitivity and grace.10 without hesitation. Warm regards, Sandra
Thundering emotions! You have flaggarded the useless traditions. Very good poem Sandra
this is a great and a sad emotional write, , glad that we women here in our country are given the freedom whom we would like to talk to es. the men
Sandra, as ex armed services I have witnessed many things in my life...How many nations have been crippled by their goverments religious hold over their people.....How wars have been fought...for what we seem to be a pointless act. When I was based in the Gulf, This subject on which you have written...is very much a way of life.....What ever happened to choice....The lord gave to us..Will.....I've never believed that anyone should have to mask their beauty from this world....we are all here to love, learn and live together.....its such a shame. Thanks for this eye opener of a piece....its wonderfully written..and touches the heart of all that understand God bless you always Jon
the sad thing here is that this veil and cloak is only for us WOMEN so sad naa-- why this discrimination- when finally we die we are reduced to earth just like any one else -10 anjali
Sandra, you explained so well what actually happens when a teenager has to hide her face. What a sad state it is when a woman can not show who she is and hide like a prisoner. Thank you for writing it so fluently and allowing me to try and comprehend how this goes on in the year 2009 in the world. Top marks Karin Anderson
just on the outside i think i would agree with leslie that we are missing out on so many beauties....to see tham in that black drape on a hot summer day.it must be a torture..dressing up both for a man and woman is a unique expression of his or hers that too is being denied...a very sensitive write
It is a shame that so many young women are forced to follow these customs against their will. Great write Sandra. Best wishes, Andrew
Wear a veil or not, women all of the wolrd are in fact put under masculine covers that steal their selves...unrealised, many tend to think they are free...i liked the concept the poem bears...10
Yes, when men have to cover women with head-to-toe drapery, it really worries me what is going on behind closed doors when the curtains are opened.
