The Ultimate Poetry Competition! Poem by Denis Martindale

The Ultimate Poetry Competition!

The competition came on time,
A billion poets chose to rhyme,
For both the fortune and the fame,
And just one winner's great acclaim!

The sonnet writers penned their best,
And freestyle poets did the rest.
The Verse Computer sifted through,
Then checked a billion it could view!

The other poems failed to shine,
But none of these, of course, were mine.
I spent a whole month writing stuff,
To share the choicest verse I love!

Some poems made me laugh out loud,
Some poems even made me proud.
Grammarly told me they were right,
So I saved poems day and night!

The deadline came, all poems sent,
Thank God for that, my body spent!
I slept and slept, I dreamed and dreamed,
The thought I'd won, not as it seemed!

I woke at last, refreshed once more,
And checked my emails for the score.
I didn't win a single prize,
And wiped the tears from both my eyes!

But I'm still glad for poems penned,
The start, the middle, and THE END.
