The Turkey Surrenders

For weeks unending the plump and showy bird did worry.
Would this late fall weather bring its end, as well as a flurry?
He could hear shotguns blasting across his valley-side home,
where among oaks and their acorns, he suspiciously did
roam.....

...keeping its eyes peeled, on the lookout for skulking men in red
.......who sought a meal for Thanksgiving guests. The bird could end up dead, ......AND....
plucked of its feathers, neck and feet severed, gutted, and placed in a roasting pan,
.....then roasted in a preheated oven to be served with 'all the fixings' to each child, woman, and man.

Hour after hour it huddled among the evergreen branches up
so high,
while humans, with their guns loaded, salivated thinking of chewing a juicy turkey's thigh.
The stress upon the bird mounted to an unforgiving point of surrender, AND
....tomorrow it would be served up hot, delicious and tender.

Finally it jumped/flew down from its perch to the forest floor.
Thus did the majestic Turkey surrender.

Bri, if your account is 'disabled', as mine was, just keep sending them a complaint almost every day, as I did, and they will eventually get tired of it and let you back in. It only took three months (and a few days) for me!

There's just something about fate. Poor turkey. Fine verse, Bri!

What did the turkey say to the hunter on Thanks giving Day? 'Quack, quack! '
