The Ticking Clock On My Wall Poem by Kenneth Maswabi

The Ticking Clock On My Wall

I am reminded daily
By the ever present voice
The ticking clock on my wall
Of life’s fragile comforts
Under the thin veil of time
Superficially coated
By the beautiful sunrise
With a little sunlight
To suppress our fear
Endearing us
To relax
To forget
The terror that is coming
For some it is the slow death of cancer
Others it is the sudden death in a car accident
While some will face off with dreaded disease like AIDS
The rest might live up to a hundred years
Sulking under the heavy burden of poverty endured
Life’s comfort zone
Warms us
Providing refuge
For our fragile bodies
Trapping us in a glasshouse of happiness
Dressing us with a thin layer of security
Filling us with a shallow mood of ecstasy
Lest we remember
The horror of death
