The Things We Hide. Poem by Lodigiana Poetess

The Things We Hide.

The things we hide
are deep inside
and hiding in the gloom,
where no light shines
or sunlight glows,
to brighten up the room.
We learn to keep a smile
so fixed
that no one sees behind,
cause God forbid they see the truth
and not like what they find.
We push it down to somewhere deep
a place that can't be found,
a rotting corpse that slowly
seeps its essence in the ground.
We know it's there, we smell decay
but still we soldier on,
we know it never goes away
and never will be gone.
The things we hide
although we've tried,
are more than just 'some stuff'
that bothers us for just a while
until we've had enough.
No, things we hide, are things unsaid
and feelings black as night,
it doesnt matter what we do
we'll never put them right.
So  best to leave them hidden  now,
we don't want you to see
how much those hidden feelings
are all slowly killing me.
