The Then Stifled Poem by Adrian Flett

The Then Stifled

Some things need no tell
left untold yield to times' claim;
only if told cause harm
when shown, known to all.

For no good reason, only to offend
will come from telling the hidden
suppressed secrets of then,
now no need to comprehend.

So let all go through a bizarre sieve
to tell but sift out the dross
leave it muffled muted and lost
locked static in memories' vice.

Those gone silent now in deaths' embrace
today unable to argue apologise excuse
or tell those who follow after, why
and how ii was in times long gone by.
