The Struggle To Live Poem by Marama Kelly

The Struggle To Live

Bickering and nitpicking, scratching with claws
like the hens in the coop digging worms

That is the path that many do take
because of the choices their elders did make

Oogling, juggling, jiggling and leering
we seek for to quench of our thirst
but never is found the soul sweet wine
only bitterness, resentment and hate

Kicking and thrusting, demeaning and spoilt
we walk in the world full of sin

We never refuse what is not good for us
when we turn from what's good for to lust

And there in the midst of temptations rewards
is the bondage to chains of deceit

The beating and badgering does take its toll
if the one who receives is not safe
for the pressures of evil do cover all life
and embraces the darkness of death

Call out for God's mercy and His grace it will fall
to shield you from the devil's embrace

And the angels of God will surround to protect
so that God can give strength through His son
