The Songs Of The Living Cities Poem by Benjamin Chiu Uy

The Songs Of The Living Cities

The Song of the Living Cities

A song is floating in the air amongstthe living things,

A dream sails along,
with the restless highways and tall buildings,

This is the cities, these are the railways arteries of the railways and the steel bridges

The beating heart of the city.

Hear the beats, the wide humings the rhythms and the monotonous drone of human activities,

The sounds and the roar of the motor cars.

A hundred feet below, from the highrise skyscrapper,

The animated heartfelts greetings among friends, strolling lovers and families,

So alive with the vibrant air,

And these birds swooping along the skylines are settling on the park trees and water fountains,

In green trimmed lawns and stone benches where old men are sitting,

The mothers strolling with their baby carriages,

And petlovers jugging with their leased dogs,

And around the sky are the passing jumbo planes with loud turbines andforeign tourists arriving and visiting the other exotic countries,

The other destinations of our crowded planet,

The same hum and bustle of prosperity and economic constructions,
the same noisy activities of life.

Life paused only for the nighttime interludes,
the stars and the ambient moon sailing, slithering in and out of the blocking clouds,

Nightime for the needed sleep.

Returning to life again the next day with the same levels of activities as yesterday.

as the morning sun made the dark cities bright with another fresh rounds of another sunshining day.

The pulse of a lively city beautifully expressed in this poem- - - Let me quote a few lines- - Life paused only for the nighttime interludes, the stars and the ambient moon sailing, slithering in and out of the blocking clouds, Nightime for the needed sleep. Returning to life again the next day with the same levels of activities as yesterday. as the morning sun made the dark cities bright with another fresh rounds of another sunshining day
