I actually learned of Hypatia from a textbook and the movie you mentioned, a brave and intelligent women who suffered the ordeal of living in an age which looked down on reason. A stellar write Mr John especially liked the secound last stanza. A good subject to capture well in this prose of verse
For the first time i read about her here, by this poem and the comments on it i added things to my knowledge, you are reviving the history, legends and myths...it's good! thank you!
This is indeed a wonderful poem! The case of the lady who refused to restrain her wit and wisdom and got butchered by Christian fanatics is a black mark in Christianity whose founder professed the lessons of tolerance and love in the place of hatred and violence and practised it showing unconditional forgiveness to those who crucified him!
So beautiful and meaningful. i love all the lines of this great and excellent work. a perfect Gift to that brave lady. well done.
What a brave and noble lady, she wasn't going to give up what she believed to be true and she paid the price with her life, murdered by so called Christian fanatics! Brilliant write! !
I really like the poem, it flows beautifully without missing any single beautiful plots..a good continuity, i maybe not a writer but i know what poems i like_Soul
I always like to read the cleverly constructed introductions to and interpretations of all of the fascinating people and legends you chose to write these little gems about. Thanks dear poet.: -)
I am a supporter and believer in and, or, of the Bible (Tanakh) , but not a Christian. Sadly, Christianity has made many a tragic mistake within the time frame of its recorded history. I believe, at one point or another in time the same can and, or, could be said of many other religions, including my own. We humans so often are such a cruel lot for creatures who so desperately need each other and crave after each others approval, support, and forgiveness, while withholding these very same ever so desperate and desired needs to others. I personally believe that when properly viewed and applied both science and scripture can work and walk hand in hand and when occasion arises that they simply cannot, and so men of both persuasions must agree to disagree, then those seeking truth in the spirit of understanding and cooperation will not resort to violence and foul behavior in asserting their views and opinions over those of others. This is an excellent poem and a bit tragic of history I was totally unaware of...
My wit and wisdom shall never be restrained WELL CONNECTED. YOU ARE AMAZING AND KEEP ON WRITING. read mine A CONFUSED SOUL
