Wonderful poem, cynicism glorified, history encapsuleted. I am sadly old enough to remember shops where one bought stuff and then went to pay at a cubicle inside which sat a woman who clicked and receipted and sat in a cage all day. Sadly this is a song which will only resonate with oldies who remember shelves and staff who climbed them to find what customers wanted.
