but never changes
Its tongue makes me nervous
But it's harmless

This is unfortunate, yet these are the evils of love. Betrayal is expectable when you are in love.

This is poem is heart breaking and well expressed. A so called 'love' full of manipulation and disguise. Just stay away.

(cont.) OOPS! I thought 'shoe-in' was correct, BUT IT IS 'shoo in', an expression with an interesting origin and definition found by Googling.

If I were still putting together usually-monthly 'showcases' of other PH poets' poems, this The Snake That You Are would be a 'shoe-in' ***. (continued)

Yes, the last 3 lines are FANTASTIC! ! ! ! And the rest of your poem, LeeAnn, 'ain't/isn't chopped liver'. Are you SURE that I, Bri, didn't write it? ?

AND: 'And when I behead you I will peel yr skin to find yr soul And make a robe of vengence with it' This at first gave me a small shiver, then a small laugh. : )))

I believe this is symbolism: 'Yr poison is yr tongue--and touch', with 'tongue' referring to spoken words from 'the snake'. I think 'yr' for 'your' may be a unique feature of some of your poems. I approve. : ) bri

Shed snake skins are a cool (slang definition, not meaning 'low in temperature') ; 'you' can even see 'eye covers' shed with the rest of the 'old', I think 'outgrown' skin. which is translucent.

I came to your site today, LeeAnn, because you recently commented on 'one of mine', a recent poem. I've given this ***** and sent to 'Favorites', wherever 'THAT' is. : ))

Hmm? I can just 'smell' Member Poem of the Day (22 Jan.2023) . Good guess, right? Right! ! ? I've rarely visited PH's picks for Poems of the Day, though I've been told by PH (twice) that I'd be one, years ago. PH used to notify authors.

I feel betrayal, disappointment, anger and vengeance embedded n this poem. Love betrayal can be very painful to generate vengeance. Beautiful poem

My late daddy ate snake meat during wartime, I was not born yet, he said it tastes like chicken meat. BTW An excellent poem, dear LeeAnn. TOP Marks!

Believe me. I know people like this. / I will peel yr skin to find yr soul / And make a robe of vengence with it / Unfortunately in real life we seldom get the chance to do this. Great poem.

"And when I behead you I will peel yr skin to find yr soul And make a robe of vengence with it". Not a good day to be a snake! !
