What the poet's writerly instinct really stands out is his masterful yet succinct language. While describing a happy thing in a happy man, he contrasts a lot with solitude, loss of faith, self-destruction. What the audience might feel are hopelessness and the hope after desperation. This multitude of emotion and layers of description are to my liking.
