The Reasons You Are Alone Poem by Randy McClave

The Reasons You Are Alone

How many men have you been with
Are you on your fourth or maybe your fifth,
Or maybe you are in your high teens
Regardless, I hope you have taken your vaccines.

I wonder how many men remembers your name
And you don't take it as shame,
Especially when you name is used in whispers
And shamefully looked at by your friends and sisters.

I won't ask you with how many men you have slept
Or how many memories you have kept,
Maybe some memories you don't want to keep
Because, with some of those men you didn't sleep.

I hope you always used protection
When you were giving out your affection,
And I hope that you worried and cared about your body
I hope that you weren't ever treated shoddy.

I wonder how many men did you use
And how many of those men did you choose,
How many of your encounters were already planned
And how many times were you just a one night stand.

I wonder when you go to sleep at night
Are you ever able to sleep peacefully with delight,
Or first do you ask for forgiveness with your prayers
So, that you won't have any nightmares.

I wonder when you look in the mirror do you see a good person
Or do you see lying and using and cheating and cursin',
When I look in your mirror you know what I see
I see someone that is nothing like me.

I understand why anyone would take you on a date
I could understand why anyone wouldn't choose you as their mate,
Can you ever be trusted
How many times have you been caught and busted.

I will say that you will always be searching and looking
And you'll always be cleaning and cooking,
You are good enough to take to brunch
You're just a free lunch.

I have heard that you always picked the wrong guy
To that question only you and God knows why,
Maybe he had already sent the right man for you your way
But, he didn't fit your resume, so you shooed him away.

I bet that you are and still will stay unmarried
And you will be that way until the day you are buried,
Why would any man ever want or choose you
Countless times already you have happily said, "I Do! "
