The Raised Child Poem by Randy McClave

The Raised Child

The following statement is true
If your child is a racist it is because of you,
They do and say what you say and do
And if they swear and curse that's because of you too.
If your child is a bigot this is no lie
They are one because you really know why,
When life started not going your way, but awry
You then showed you're children an awful guy.
If your child curses and acts obscene
Remember they've learned from you from a child unto a teen,
Those actions of yours are not far from that scene
They saw and heard you being awful and mean.
If your child smokes at all
If they begin chewing or getting high or drinking alcohol,
And if they constantly get into a political brawl
You and only you are the one who made that call.
So, if your child ever brings you sadness or a tear
Or if they ever bring you worries or fear,
If unto you and others as a bad person they do appear
Before you judge them, you better look in the mirror.
