The Queen Is Gone. Poem by Daya Nandan

The Queen Is Gone.

The Queen of Britain has passed and our condolences are out,
Their Queen is gone but we should not greive and shout,
The younger generation asks why the older generation seems so cold,
Without realising the scars of tragedy that victims of colonization hold,

There is so much historical amnesia about the suffering our forefathers faced,
So many Malaysian lives lost because of our wealth that the British chased,
Our forefathers and patriots did not seek independence to watch us mourn the colonizers now,
When they fought with such tenacity to make our freedom their vow,

The sweat and blood of our patriots liberated our land,
Pressure from all sides emancipated us from the British hand,
Our freedom was earned and we should learn to respect their sacrifice,
For freedom is never easy and always comes at a price,

How would they feel if they watch us mourn our oppressors?
How would our grandparents feel watching us mourn aggressors?
So much of our nations wealth was stolen to under the British crown,
Forced labour and exploitation on a global scale leaving economies to drown,

Starvation, genocide and death in countries under their control,
While people suffered in poverty because of the wealth they stole,
They financed their revolutions and gained prosperity from stolen wealth,
And now the victims are known as the commonwealth,

Decades of recovering has not been enough,
Our grandparents are still traumatized while our oppressor's laugh,
So, do not forget our past, dear Malaysians that I know,
Wave our Jalur Gemilang proudly with pride to show! 🇲🇾

Mengucapkan Takziah sudah mencukupi. Janganlah melupakan pengorbanan pejuang-pejuang negara kita!
