Well said Richard, Don might think the same way, I do feel though for Ron, he was put in an awkward situation, stand up for a friend, or keep your own job, the truth is we all handle things differently, even if he had spoken up to Don, I doubt it would have done anything. I do think its been blowing out of proportion, either way its a sad loss. Great job Richard, the politics of skating crack under thin ice.

Kevin, I think that if Ron had stopped Don, none of this would have transpired. Their boss would have seen that the situation was under control, and would have respected Ron for having the guts to stop Don. Don would probably still not have agreed with him, but would have respected him. Re: Ron's job, he's wealthy enough!

I get the feeling Ron McLean was saying what was necessary to keep his job. Don Cherry has an old school way of speaking, but I think hw was just pointing to all non-poppy wearing individuals.

I can imagine Don Cherry reciting this poem- to Ron Mclean. But seriously I think friends disagree sometimes. And I think Ron knows better

This poem is really thought provoking, Richard. I wonder if one has to be a Canadian to appreciate this issue? I wonder what Ron was doing and thinking while listening to Don (I watched, and had/have no clue) . I wonder what Don really thinks? Does he see a difference between racism and cultural relativism? (The 2 really are not the same) . So much to think about....a fine verse, Richard.

Nope, one doesn't have to be Canadian. I too have no idea what was going through Ron's mind. And especially, giving him two thumps up at the end. M.J., I think he's old school, and doesn't see the difference between the two. The dynamics of what happened called for a thought-provoking poem. Thank you so much for a very well thought-out response.
