The Poets, who are perpetually good, humble, patient and wise
At the very end, will undoubtedly win. The Poets, who chastise
Everything that is wrong and iniquitous in our society, will always
Defeat racism, inequality, bigotry and injustice in countless ways
They unmask the ugliness and the greed of many hearts and souls
The Poets are not pusillanimous, feeble and, of course, not dumb fools
If you see tears in his beautiful eyes, it is not because of weakness
Cowardice or lack of bravery. Let me tell you, my friends, that greatness
Cannot be lent, brought or purchased. Greatness is earned through
Pain, love, wit, humility, sacrifice and patience, after living a slew
Of problems, indignities, and adversities. Poets bow to no evils, to no
Devils. The Poets, the wise and consummate thinkers, will blow
Your mind with words that can obliterate the wicked nastiness of racism
Because we are one family regardless of the colors or shades of the prism
We are one human family, one human race regardless of the mirror
The lives of our people, the lives of the marginalized ones matter
Black lives matter, the lives of our suffering people will in perpetuum
Matter and the lives of mothers, fathers and children matter. In sum
The Poets' words are as sharp as lethal swords, which can slice the iron
Of the oppressors' bloodthirsty boots. The Poets, at the very end, will win
Poets are like humble and good politicians, which, at the end, will remain.
P.S. This poem is dedicated to Congressman John Robert Lewis,
to the famous and unsung Heroes of the civil rights movement.
