I am revisiting this poem ---You take me to the old photographs that speak so many stories ---People captured, people loved, people disappeared---Happy days, memorable days, ----so many---

By using " photograph" , " words" , " picture" (4 times, including the title) , AND " portrait" , I think you've muddled ** just what it is you are talking about. i THINK YOU ARE talking about a book. My guess is the words are black, IF there ARE words printed on white paper. Is a ghost speaking? honest! the poem holds promise, but, for me, needs clarification. and i am not attuned to symbolism. bri ;)

a photograph is a picture and often a portrait

2 - P.S. But, as in the other poem, this line doesn't seem to 'fit': " captured forever in the hopeful eyes of the young" . that line seems to imply that OTHERS, besides yourself, can " see" the words! except for 'that' line, i'd send this to MyPoemList. let me know if you reconcile what i 'object' to. thanks. bri :)

1 - Except for the last line of this poem, i am not struck by any great difference between this one and the one on which i just left a comment, " A Time-Worn Photograph" . i COULD go back and forth between the two. hmm? do i want to? i'd say i like this one more. Is the last line 'spoken by' a ghost or a person who has lived a previous life? ? ? spooky. bri :)

the dusty picture from a long long time ago sitting forgotten on the mantel whispering its stories to the empty room singing softly its songs of love and life into the night yearning always yearning yearning for someone to know these people lived - - - - - - - -The secrets of a whole life may be hidden in the moments captured in words or the old photographs.Such a beautiful poem is Susan Williams.

A wonderfully reminiscent poem written with great style. I sometimes look at older poems and try to remember the circumstances which affected me at the time. This is a deeply thought provoking poem, Susan

Hey friend Tom- -thank you for always reading a new poem written by your across the pond friend- -you have no idea how much I look forward to your thoughts that have been provoked by my pen. [ I am either a very provoking person or I am provocative- -of the two I prefer provoking cuz I have a mean streak ;)
