He has better luck with women. He doesn't
obsess over them, walks next to them
with an easy gait, much like his unforced
conversation. His smile is spontaneous,

daniel, this is my first time for reading this poem, and i find it entertaining. i relate to the process by which our different selves—shadow, persona, whatever we call them—meld to make a whole self, one in which we're comfortable in our own skins. took me while. -glen

AND THESE LINES ARE precious, beautiful, outstanding; you pick. (to MyPoemList) : and now we communicate, face to face, so to speak, every week. Just last week, he surprised me. He told me, he has read all 100+ poems I have posted at PoemHunter. 'I'd give my right hand to be able to write poems like yours, ' he said quietly, and the look on his face assured me he was telling the truth. .......hey, then the PH Daniel could have 3 hands! bri ;)

(continued) ............MY decision to 'give up prayer' was a conscious decision in my early twenties, when i finally gave up the last remnant of my belief in a God (other than me..........OF COURSE) . favorite sentence so far: Once he mumbled a thank you, but usually we avoid anything emotional or sentimental...........ha! (to be continued) ...........

i 'love' the Poet's Notes. good job, both Daniels! ! now to read the poem. [i'm glad Terry Craddock left me a LITTLE room! ! ! ] this made me laugh (aloud, but not loudly) : with one of those acquaintances, who help him keep SOLITUDE in its proper place - which is in my life.... (to be continued) ...........

Hi Daniel, As one bird chirped to another we can fly to another partner with the hope of harmony. This is a remarkable reflective piece of realizing one's true desires. Yes this feeling inside is the alter ego of secretive internal wishes. I would Love to hear from you someday soon, Paul

Absolutely Brilliant! ! And that's from Richard and The Other Richard. One is the one who speaks forever without getting to the point. And The Other Richard can write so succinctly and profoundly. I think that your poem brings a whole new meaning to: Opposites Attract.

I agree with the Other Daniel: I do believe this poem was inside you for a long time. Often the poems that flow right out of us are the most piercing and honest. Reading your poem The Other Daniel felt like I was seeing you through the Looking Glass. Your exchange with the Other Daniel in a way reminds me of how Dorian Gray must have felt every time he gazed upon his portrait.

This was utterly fascinating. We are many people and not one of them is necessarily an exercise in insanity or perfidy.. I think all these peoples inside us keep us sane by giving voice to thoughts and emotions we prefer to keep stifled. A novel, unique, and very welcome topic- -I will be pondering this for quite some time.

It's always special when a poem can be pondered over time. I feel that is one of the chief values of poetry, that it promotes such self-reflection. I agree with your this fragmentation of the personality is conducive to mental health. BTW On this theme of multiple selves check out the Portuguese Modernist poet Fernando PESOA. If you dont know him already, you will say after reading, Thanks, Daniel, he's really great! But say thank you twice because both of us Daniels like his work!

This is a very intriguing read. The complexity of human nature is a subject of great interest. This poem explores the other side, alter ego. It's either the part of ourselves we hide from the world or the part we wish to see in ourselves. Written in autobiographical mode, its a deep psychological exploration of the self. Enjoyed thoroughly.

It is always so interesting to go back and read after a spontaneous and continuous write. We often surprise ourselves in what it is that we had to say. Many times it doesn't seem like our words at all but that of another self. A very good poem giving us a glimpse into your minds (plural) inner workings.10
