The Old World That Was Lost Poem by Job Ombati

The Old World That Was Lost

Before COVID,
The world slumbered on, unburtubed,
Like a gently sleeping child, nestled in innocence.
Humanity romped about free,
Freely knocking at each other's doors,
Mingling freely,
Laughter reverberating around homes,
As
Parties boisterously roared on.

And then,
COVID struck,
Like a bad smack
From an irate lover.
Many were left dumbfounded.
Few choices were available;
None though without a mask and sanitizer.
Airports shut,
Borders clicked shut,
And all crouched in their homes,
Fearful of what the outside word stored.

Afterwards,
The world staggered on,
Just as a recovering malaria patient.
It lost its innocence.
It lost its patience.
It lost it trust.
It lost its hospitality.
Humanity was gone.
Humanity sighed,
Like one smarting from a slap.
The world staggers on, drunk.```
