The Old Photo Poem by Bryan Sefton

The Old Photo

How the fresh young person there
Smiled through the lens at me
I can't recall the exact words
She spoke with youthful glee
But they were caught midway and held
In perpetuity for me

Now in a land where cannot fall
Neither smile nor waving hand
The love in her eye stands sweet and clear
And tomorrow states unplanned
For today was time enough back then
Tomorrow, we thought, would stand

And so it was, with just a click
With just a finger shove
That dear girl with the laughing face
And eye's that danced with love
Was caught forever in a way
That time could never move

Did she know? No, how could she?
It was never in the mind
But that's the way I see it now
When I look back to find
That as she smiled into the lens
An old man stood behind
