He stands silently looking seaward,
Perhaps longing to be free?
To be free from land's firm clutches
To roam the endless sea?

Wonderful thing I notice here is Poet's ability to paint the picture in it's natural beauty that he himself beheld. Although he had been in a position to use metaphoric terms, phrases etc. in doing so, I particularly like the simple diction he has used, not forgetting rhyme and rhythm as well, for the purpose. I also see the same figure he saw at the sea. Thanks for sharing. Congrats for being the well deserved poem of he day.X

One of the most effective poems I have read lately that has captured a person in bearing and in pensive thought. Excellent and quite deserving of being Poem of the Day. Congratulations!

At the edge he is reflecting on the high and lows of life- There are sea full of questions and sea full of answers which will never be heard. A marvelous write, thanks for sharing.

Well written and new take on an old theme. This time the old man stands at shore and contemplates his life. I like the way your draw your character so we can get a clear visual of the man standing alone at the shore, his suit looking worn with his white shirt unbuttoned....he longs to be carefree and open like the sea, but his life has already run much of its course, despite regrets and questions still left to be asked and answered. I too love the sea and all it represents, not to mention the way it makes one feel. Thanks for sharing.

The sea withholds its story so we must devise our own imaginings. Well written.

So PH, we have gone back to giving this section to poets who haven't been members for 4+ years?

Thanks Joe, I can see this old guy so clearly. He is all of us. I love the last verse which lifts the poem into philosophy.
