Kevin Patrick thank you for kind and most generous comment and yes, weeds are important to every ecosystem. For at the museum where I work we have a natural wild garden. Which is beautifully unique in its own way and attracts many of wildlife's critters. So yes even nature's wild weeds play their part. A big part. Thanks again and take care man.
Highly original poem Shaun..and a great counter to the infinite number of poems about flowers. I really like your ending and your reference to the Day of The Triffids. I think we share a love of sci fi which we both like to write about from time to time. It's a 'these weeds look like Triffids! ' inspired ten from me!
I don't think its a wrong choice, flowers are a cliche unless done something original, weeds are still essential to ecosystems man is blindbto their beauty. A lovely poem!
Yeah sometimes Dominic a writer albeit poet/poetess, any writer of whatever needs to go against the soft easy route grain, against established conformity. To pick up writing's/ poetry's 'golden rules' and not just bend or merely break them, but to smash them to smithereens. To obliterate them. And yes, I'm a John (The Midwich Cuckoos- Village of the Damned/The Kraken Wakes) Wyndham fan, Great writer and unique imagination. Thanks again and I wish you well.
