The Mistakes Of The Past Poem by Damian Cranney

The Mistakes Of The Past

Where have all the wisemen gone,
Those Sages who in times long past,
Would tell us what we need to do,
To make our collective dreams come true.

There are no sages to be found.
To make us respect this hallowed ground.
Lessons from the past.
No longer are respected.

Unfettered, greed, and infinite ambition,
Political need, and existential aggression,
All married together, in autocratic delusion,
The end of the world will be its only conclusion.

The world does need changing,
That much is true,
But by men of good will
Whose humanity shines through.

Starting a war is a silly idea,
It means you've not learnt,
The lessons of the past,
and are destined, to repeat,
The mistakes that will last.
