Falling a soft rain
Stilled the river of her words

This is such a beautiful elegy for Maya - it is the very praise song she made so much her own contribution to literature. And like all good elegies, it both consoles us (dries our tears) and makes us acutely aware of our loss (our tears fall again) . We will never come to terms with death. If it's a mystery, it's too large to grasp. If it's an evil, it's too frightening to pursue. If it's a necessity, it's too grim to accept. Hamlet claimed THE READINESS IS ALL, but what I'm feeling and many people whose comments I've read are feeling is that we are not yet ready to lose Maya. I have a friend named Nika at POEMHUNTER who is struggling with this loss. I'm going to recommend your elegy to her.

Nice poem, I love it. Maya Angelou is a great woman, a legend. No legend in the world has lived without urgly sounds from the mouths of critiques. To say negative thing about Maya is your work as a caviler, do your. Job! But we sons and daughters of Maya Angelou, know who our mother was, 'a phenomenal woman', hard to beat. Maya may her soul rest in peace. I want you to read my tribute to Maya titled Adieu Maya Angelou

While reading comments on my poem, I came across an extremely negative one regarding Maya Angelou. I have taken the liberty, as it is very much my liberty, to address the poet directly, through a personal message. While there will always be differences in how the shared world is viewed, I respect those opinions different from my own, but refuse to be swayed to take my poem off line. What history should teach us is tolerance. For the person who took such great offense to my tribute, to who I still consider a beautiful poetess, author and woman, I do not apologize, I merely offer you my thanks for your critique...and wish you PEACE. I will continue to share my writing, as it is mine alone... and owned with a positive pen. To others who view me, thank you for your time, support and respect. Words are indeed powerful tools, I choose to construct with kindness.
