What is the meaning of Christmas?
Is it presents and great food?
Is it decorations and carols by candlelight?
Is it the tear-jerking movie;
the appeals for donations for those in need?
Is it making the effort to be kinder, more compassionate
to your fellow human beings?
Is it the warmth of family and friends,
perhaps around a cheerful fire?
Or, is it as we're often told when we become
a bit too commercialized,
a celebration of religious significance:
God made man, for our salvation - the greatest gift
humanity could ever wish for and didn't deserve?
Is Christmas only for children bright-eyed,
not weighed down by cares and toil?
I suppose Christmas is about all these things,
and something more....
Apart from that, follow Santa's lead, and get fat
but not just on milk and cookies!
Yeah, my poem doesn't rhyme;
it's not easy to do all the time.
