The Mask Poem by Jennifer Birchall

The Mask

Rating: 4.0

When someone shows you who they really are
Believe them
They hide behind the mask
Will show you love and affection
But the mask gets too heavy, it falls
Their love becomes hate
This is their true self
They will repair the mask
And they'll wear it again
Hiding in plain sight
Until it's slips again

When someone tells you who they really are
Listen to them
Their charisma may entice you
With talks of beauty and love
Mouth becomes full, choking on lies
Words become hate
This is their true self
Apologies in abundance
You accept them
Their voice will stay silent
For a while

Only the chosen one will see the true self
They save it especially for you, oh lucky you

It's a cycle that's hard to get off
round and round go the pedals
Be sure to wear a crash helmet
It will only end in disaster
