The Mark Poem by Angela Bontle Ditumiso

The Mark

I keep forgetting
Become Lord over my own life
Determine where and how the dice must fall

I remember the first time I was on the track
Trying to see who could chase
The wind better
Between my friends and I
Upon reaching the finishing line
I knew I could conquer small wars
From then on
There wasn't a fight I shied out of

Now I'm older
Every time I make myself an idol
I lose the sight of God
I get lost often
I wonder
How do you stop being your own pillar
When you're trying to be dependent on God
