The maple leaf is a symbol of love in Chinese and Japanese lore… so often used in their poetry since medieval times…regarding love symbols there are as many ways of loving as there are people in the world, same maybe true for love symbols…. I think the poet could have mentioned the symbolism to help the unaware reader. There are many love symbols like the harp, unicorn and cupid etc….they help us in describing the elusive and complex emotion that consumes our young and old. When we think of love, we can easily become overwhelmed by its vastness. Love symbols help us capture a small portion of what love means so that as we grow older, our conception of love may also grow accordingly. nice lines liked... :)
