a very funny poem that is quite absurd who has ever heard of a society that has that moral fibre? ...........wonderfully written.
A society that has that moral fibre- - Hahaha, LOVE it, Tom! Thank you for this. I wish that Roald Dahl were still alive to illustrate this- - he would have been perfect to draw these characters.
Hahahaha very funny I can't stop laughing!
Lorraine Margueritte, I STILL laugh when I read it! Did you read in the comments how the inspiration came about for this one? Curiouser and Curiouser! : D
What a lovely nonsense rhyme to start the day. Very amusing, where did that idea come from. I thought the Mad Sock -Eating Society were going to be washing machines! ! !
Well, Alison, are you ready for this? Truth is stranger than fiction sometimes! We poets are strange birds, and inspiration can come in many ways. Truth be told, I awakened in the middle of the night to use the lavatory, and in my sleepy brain there arose a phrase; The mad sock-eating society. What sort of strange dreams I must be having, I thought. But, being a writer, I jotted it down on paper just in case it would prove useful for later, then fell back asleep. The next morning before breakfast, I alrready had Stanzas 4 and 5. Oh, so this is supposed to become a poem! Sounds like something from Lewis Carroll, or Dr. Seuss! I kept working with it, and Stanzas 1-3 and 6 soon followed. The moral of this story? All poets should keep a notepad close at hand, and write down any idea you have, no matter how crazy it sounds. You never know what will come of it!
Wonderful humor is very wisely expressed here in this poem. Last stanza gives more concentrated ideas here. Suffering in cold but not wearing sock is so sad. But eating up socks expresses cleverness of humorous presentation in this poem...10
many thanks once again, Kumarmani, for constructive, analytical feedback- - And for the 10!
Terrible tragedy it is, To eat the socks That house your feet, 'Very clever how you worded that' For you a poetic victory, For the fiber seekers, Good thing thing they didn't eat their hat. 'Beaucoup d'imagination' I laughed all the way thru, Thought it was extremely clever, too. Perfect rhyme and form
Many thanks, Sandra. I figured you were about due for a good laugh! Some of us, (myself included) , when we become a little too lovelorn, tend toward the melancholic. It helps to pull onesself out of that every once in awhile!
This reminded me of Alice In Wonderland. Yes, I love nonsense poetry, and try to write some from time to time. Me thinks this is just a tad better though. Loved the humor. This is a very visual penning your words make it very easy to imagine. It would probably make a good children's book. Anyways, it's a fun read. One worth reading again and again.
Thanks, Richard, for your generous and positive review! : -)
