The Love Of A Father Poem by Timber Koleden

The Love Of A Father

Rating: 5.0

The shadows fell; there was darkness,
and the bells stopped ringing in the towers.
The night came with such subtle stillness,
and the petals fell from all the flowers.

The world all around is cold as stone,
and the twilight hours fall in shades.
There was no warmth in the world's bone,
Yet we were happy in our little glade.

At night you tended the fire that sears,
and you hid us in your heavy cloak.
No evil came upon us all those years,
you hid us like the shadow of an oak.

We danced and smiled; happily sang,
while you hid from the world's dark.
In the glenn our cheery laughter rang,
and we did not understand your part.

We loved you then as our kind and caring father,
and for your teachings wise and strangely grim.
We love you now that you are no longer,
because we know there is evil in this world dim.

We thank you for letting us truly know,
what love really is despite the night.
We love you now more than you know:
Those who labour in the dark will be rewarded in the light.

Now the war is over; summer is come and green,
and you taught us love which we now use to heal.
To heal those that have never really seen,
a father's love; that eternal unbreaking seal.
