Kashyapa muni had, two wicked sons
whose reign, of terror on earth and heaven
made everyone wish, to rid these demons
but could not, as it was beyond their ken
when Hiranyaksha the elder sibling,
hid the earth somewhere, deep under the sea,
and when it became, hard for the earthlings,
Lord Vishnu, received their SOS plea
when Vishnu received, angels' requests too,
time was ripe for Varaha Avatar:
a giant boar with pair of, tusks to shoo
out, the demon who looked all set, to spar
to Varaha, the demon was no match,
who was soon mowed down by the boar's twin tusks;
that ended the demon, as victims watched
overjoyed and relieved, that it was brisk
The Lord then lifted the earth, with the tusks,
then put it back in its normal orbit
so that, people can have, their dawns and dusks
and, their life, on even keel bit by bit
Hiranyakashipu then, vowed revenge
on Lord Vishnu, for his brother's'murder';
on his command his Army head on plunged
on, heaven and earth, to war and plunder
leaving Army, on its reign of terror
the demon went to mountains, for penance;
its intense heat, left angels in horror;
but to grant the wish, was Lord Brahma's stance.
meanwhile Lord Indra entered the war zone
and, destroyed the demon's troops, rank and file
then took, the demon's wife, who was alone
as hostage, to bargain later, with guile
Sage Narada managed, to get her freed
as she was pregnant, to get rest and care;
like daughter, the sage took care of her needs
as to his home, together they retired
Narada would tell her, stories of Vishnu,
which deeply impressed her, as she listened;
Prahlada, her son, in her womb heard too,
to become Vishnu Bhakt, by tales hastened
AT ANOTHER VENUE
the demon pleaded: ' make me immortal'.
Brahma thought for sometime and then declined:
' to free you from death would be immoral
because to destruction you are inclined'
the demon thought, of all the pros and cons,
and, from Brahma got, a watered-down boon;
with a swagger, back to kingdom, he bounced
but was shocked, at the havoc, all too soon.
seething with rage, the demon fought, alone
in the heavens, to kill all in toto;
then, came down to earth, and found, wife and son.
they returned, but revenge, was his motto.
Lord Vishnu felt it was right time to act,
and morphed to Narasimha Avatar
which is, half-man and half-lion, in fact;
then came to earth, with the demon, to spar
Vishnu bhakt Prahlad troubled the father
who tried all tricks to wean, his son, away
when nothing worked, with plans he bothered
to get son killed, but alive, Prahlad stayed
the demon dragged Prahlada to a hall,
and asked ' in this hall, does your Vishnu loom? '
son yessed; dad felt like, hitting head to wall;
then went near pillar, in a pall of gloom.
dad asked son: ' is Vishnu, in this pillar? '
son answered: ' Vishnu here and everywhere'.
livid with rage, demon kicked the pillar;
which cracked, then soon, the Lord emerged, from there.
for Prahlada, a magnificent sight:
Lord Narasimha in his full glory!
the dad looked puny, in front of Lord's might.
the Lord caught the demon, rest was gory.
the Lord laid down the demon on his lap
and then with the lion's claws ripped apart
the demon's chest; from body, life was, sapped.
the sight was tough on young Prahlada's heart.
the Lord took Prahlada aside and told:
' your dad was Vijay, heaven's gatekeeper,
who carried a curse, to take birth three fold
post that, everyone will love him deeper'
Prahlada became, a kind-hearted king.
it was soon a land of milk and honey
where, everyone found, Dharma in full swing;
just what they needed, for their, life's journey.

I would like to translate this poem
A difficult story in Hindu mythology/folklore to relate in poetic form, complete with all nuances, that too in English. Shri A Narayana has performed this task in his usual efficeint way. I am reminded of a long poem in English, telling the story of Savitri and Satyawant. Sorry I don't recollect the name of the poetess.
