The Leaf Poem by Amar Agarwala

The Leaf

It sat perched on a Banyan tall
That stood beside a pond,
Which grasped the tree with fingers long
And held the skies beyond;

It dived not in the shallow pool
Nor did it fly away,
But withered slowly on the bough
Upon an autumn's day.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
NATURE

There are times we can draw from nature lessons, which have a simile impact upon our lives. The forlorn leaf unwilling to leave its old haunt and withering away by itself seems to closely reflect upon timid human behaviour. For one needs to explore the world, the old adage has now changed, for - It is the rolling stone that gathers moss!

There is a strong message for us- that like a leaf our life too fades away slowly into oblivion. Though we try to hold onto customs and rituals of the society a time comes those hold no meaning. Thanks for sharing.
