My city used to have video rental shops
dotted around the suburbs of escapism,
though for some time there has been just one,
which closed its doors last week.

in your response to R.M.Smith, you say: " I watch DVDs at home. Home alone." HOME ALONE was an entertaining movie for me. I'm on the fence about sending to MyPoemList. oh, what the H-e-l-l. to MyPoemList bri :) liked ending with a rhyme
Sad to hear, but time moves on and sometimes these places can't keep their business going.
I like your poems. This one was cool and funtastic to read on the entertainment world. Kudos. Pleez do read my newest poem, titled, every newest poem here, maybe msg me about it as it has enough quota of comments already so no more comments needed.
Thanks so much for your perceptive, appreciative comment. I will read your poem today.
We all would recall how fast things have changed over the last two to three decades. Entertainment field (production as well as distribution) has gone through maximum transformation. This poem presents a testimony of such change. Thanks a lot, Michael.
There certainly have been changes in home entertainment. I think that computers have edged out videos, which is a pity.
The Last Video Shop gasps its final breath as the likes of Netflix, Hulu, YouTube, and others crowd in and take over the market. Now one can order up & pay for a movie from the comfort of home, without having to leave to go to a shop. I lost one this way, too, and I still miss it. Not only did they offer an expansive variety, but if you requested something they didn't have, they would order it for you.
You are right about why video shops have declined and shut down. I use You Tube a lot, but Netflix and Hulu are new to me.
All well that ends well /// I had bought a few final movies......was better than any cinema in town
Yes, all's well that ends well. I did not feel that I had missed out when the shop closed. The last cinema I went to was in the 1990s-'Titanic'.
The last video shop of the town is still in memory and this has brought up this poem beautifully. Classic to comedy romantic music is brought up ahead with beauty of life. An Amazing sharing is done here...10
Yes, the memory of the closing down is only a week old. I think I mentioned only the sort of videos which I used to rent. I avoided western and war, but liked all the others.
you can watch them faster, save time; in the light you can make notes; you can make interval(s) as long as you like. The big screen, you miss; and the smell of popcorn.
Indeed you miss the much bigger screen of cinemascope and surround sound, compared to a 24 inch TV screen. But as you say, you can fast forward videos and watch a much larger number of them. You are totally in charge of your own entertainment. 'Have a great night out at home'.
I still have old videos but no longer have a video player!
