The Last Fruit Gone - 2 the Pumpkin Vine Poem by Unnikrishnan Sivasankara Menon

The Last Fruit Gone - 2 the Pumpkin Vine

Rating: 5.0

The Last Fruit Gone -2

The young mango tree
with no flowers, no fruits
no bees and birds
she stands deserted.

She saw a pumpkin vine
with large hairy leaves, smiling
bright orange flowers, tendrils
long and springy crawling nearby.

The young mango tree
returned the smile with glee
and asked the sprightly vine
'what makes you so happy? '

'See my leaves green and flowers
and the insects, flies and bees
that throng them, soon I will have
sweet juicy fruit and more company.'

'Where do you go? ' jealousy
of the mango tree asked,
for she could only wave her leaves
not move like the vine did.

The pumpkin vine said
with a wicked smile flashing
'anywhere, where there is
sunshine sans interruption.'

The young lonely mango tree
could not resist the temptation
asked, 'can you join me?
climb on me and stay here? '

Number two in your story, but we do sadly judge people by their looks.
