A beautiful write that is vividly descriptive as well as subtly metaphoric. A reflective lake pondering over her limitations just as an inadequate human might do. I guess this is called personification in poetic terms. In the midst of seas and rivers, a lake might well feel insignificant and worthless but you leave it to the reader's discretion to decide if a lake is merely a stain or not. A great philosophical write.

- - - - - - - - - - Feelings of lake are so akin to our feelings of loneliness when we feel small, limited, cut off from the larger world.Like Glen said in his comment, we are connected like water vapour sucked from the lake spreading though the air around it and blown to faraway places.(Part-2)

The Lake is puzzled, confused, sometimes afraid.. It knows it is a limited being. It knows this is a world with giants, called rivers and seas. It knows what cannot be changed must be endured within the circumference of its basin. Is it not just a stain upon the surface of things? Such a lovely poem about our feelings.(Part-1)

the lake feels as we do at times but is mistaken. for starters is the illusion of the solidity of things, of hard lines between the lake and what it touches below, above, around its rim. and then there is the rising of the moisture from its surface—rain for who knows where. and the people who walk its shores—what are they thinking who are they, what does the presence, the feel of the lake mean for the greater world? -glen

Water of lake does not become able to flow because land covers in all direction. Accessible sky is nice and in lake's still water holds reflection of sky and sunset. Often lake is puzzled but lake dazzles with amazing flicker of nature. A nice imagery is drawn here. An interesting poem is excellently penned...10
