The Lady In The Park Poem by Ray Hansell

The Lady In The Park

Rating: 5.0

Her and I used to share
A bench here in the park
We'd sit and talk for hours
As the daylight gave way to dark

I loved to sit and talk with her
I always learned so much
She always used to tell me
You have nothing without love and trust

She told me that many years ago
Her husband was killed in war
She said, she always wondered
What all the fighting was really for

She told that her and her husband
Would share this bench each day
Sitting here just talking
Until the war took him away

She has so many memories
Of those days from her past
She said the one nice thing is
Memories will forever last

As we got up to leave that day
I saw a tear in her eye
I looked at her and asked
For what reason do you cry?

She said, you remind me of my husband
In a hundred different ways
That's why I always enjoy
Sitting here with you each day

She told me all she wanted
Was for her and her husband to reunite
I had no way of knowing
That she would die that night

I went to the cemetery
To say my own goodbye's
I think it might be raining
For I have water in my eyes

But I remembered what she said to me
About love and trust
Along with faithfulness and honesty
In life they are a must
