The Joy Of Spring Poem by Dave Dafes

The Joy Of Spring

Now waketh Spring with kiss of golden ray,
And melteth Winter's chill in soft'ning light.
The Earth herself doth don a fresh array,
As Flora's hand restoreth life and might.

Lo! Daffodils in clusters proud arise,
Their trumpet blooms proclaim a love most deep;
Whilst Tulips blush beneath the morning skies,
In hues where passion and new yearlings' sleep.

Sweet Buttercups with modest heads do bow,
Yet in their yellow mirth true joy they bear;
They sing of youth and charm upon the bough,
Of friendship's bloom and hearts devoid of care.
These blooms — a troth of life anew begun,
Of trials faced and conquered 'neath the sun.

Behold! The Robin, harbinger of cheer,
With breast of ember bright as dawn's first flame,
Now scours the sod for worm and berry near,
And chirps a song none other dares to claim.

And lo! The Cardinal in crimson bold,
Doth woo his bride with lays of fervent bliss;
His song doth echo through the woodland old,
And maketh Spring more lovely with each kiss.

The Ruby-throat, that hummingbird so fleet,
With jeweled breast and wings a-whirr, appears—
He seeks the blooms, where nectar, rich and sweet,
Doth match the joy he brings unto our spheres.

Then glideth in the Tanager, blood-red,
With onyx wings, in forest shade he dwells;
His carol wakes the oaks from slumb'rous bed,
And in his tune, a dream of Eden swells.

The Titmouse too, with feather'd crest held high,
With note so fair, dost crown the morning song;
His warble floats as incense to the sky,
And bids the soul in gratitude grow strong.

O Spring! Sweet Spring! Thou art the breath of grace,
That from the tomb of frost dost lift our race.
Where blossoms bloom and songbirds charm the air,
For in thy light, all things seem bright and fair,

There joy is found, and sorrow dares not tread;
And Hope anew from Nature's heart is fed.
Let none despise thy youthful, merry guise,
For in thy mirth, eternal promise lies.
