The Invalid's Wife Poem by Sandra Black

The Invalid's Wife

Rating: 5.0

She watched over him all through the day
Got him his medicines and even his spray
When night fell, she tucked him in
With a little hug, she satisfied her whim

No fancy kisses
No slobbering ones too
With the invalid it has been clean
For a month or two

She remembered the days of passion
All in unrepeated fashion
Some over splendid mountain tops
Some over the Grassy knobs

She filled her dreams with memories
For that's all now that's true
The invalid could not move
Even for the sake of you

She filled her sad heart
And went on her way
Steadfastly in love
Waiting for a miracle from above

Everyday she sponged him
She combed his hair
She hoped he would respond
She hoped he would care

When atlast one day
He woke from his slumber
He found she was in array
For her trip down under

Shed he copious tears
Over her body that day
His turn now
To cherish those days

Someday he hopes
They would meet again
Where both invalids
Would be well again
