does that mean that we have to make people poor in order to have pity
In a way. But I think it is more trying to say that we wouldn't need to have pity " if we did not make somebody poor" . At first I read it like it was someone's excuse for creating poverty but it now to me sounds more like pity is a short term solution to poverty and William Blake is trying to get us to realise that it should be stopped.
Can anyone explain why William spelled caterpillar incorrectly? I've checked several sites and noticed it is spelled wrong in all of them. Anyone know why? This is an amazing poem though.
