The Horrors Of War Poem by Sophie Allyah

The Horrors Of War

i remember so well
like it was yesterday
in the corridor
as i passed by
i saw the unnatural
the true face of horror
that to these days
still haunts me

soldiers laid dying

arms severed
blood streaming
stomachs ripped open
guts falling out
one eyeball is missing
i can see the eye socket
legs torn apart
blood squirt all over
missing multiple vital parts
grasping for last breath

they're crying in pain
screaming in agony
some just distorted in silence
others passed out

some died on that day
and some retired
some are relentless
they don't know when to quit

these men are the survivors

and i live to tell the story
scathed in the field of doom
but prevailed to see another day

but this isn't all

it is just the tip
of the iceberg

these are the horrors of war
