The horrors of war, by James Sebastiani
It's that time of year, another November,
When we think of the fallen, a time to remember,
Fathers, brothers, sons, Mothers, sisters, daughters,
Unwavering loyalty, to their country without falter,
But so many lives lost, senselessly taken,
Many lives given, only to be forsaken,
By their gods, their generals, their politicians,
Expendable, just so much canon fodder, but out of volition,
Hailed as heroes, but really just pawns,
In a game of strategy, that can never be won,
Marionettes playing in a theatre of war,
Strings pulled by dark hands, all in a quest for,
More power, more oil, more wealth, more land,
Protecting king and country, we must make a stand,
But how misguided, blinded, and misinformed,
Those poor souls, with their perceptions deformed,
With their false sense of pride in what they're doing,
But the sacrifices they've made will be their undoing,
The heroes return, with their rewards, for all they have done,
For facing the 'enemy' for picking up a gun,
A shiny new wheelchair, legs of titanium,
The best prosphetics, only the premium,
Guide dogs, crutches, PTSD,
Come and get them lads, they're all for free,
It's the least we can do, for defending democracy,
As an added bonus, we'll offer you therapy,
To help deal with the horrors you've seen,
Comrades in arms, blown to smithereens,
Then there's the ones who didn't survive,
Black plastic body bags, in return for their lives,
Buried with full honours, always remembered,
For the way he died, an IED, body dismembered,
So on this rememberance day, we must not forget,
The horrors of war, and all those that met,
With an untimely, premature, demise,
Time to wake up, time to open our eyes.
