The Hoopoe Bird Poem by Ima Ryma

The Hoopoe Bird

The hoopoe bird of legend be
The wise trusted messenger that
King Solomon sent, namely me,
To Queen of Sheba's habitat,
To give the King's letter to her,
Inviting her to visit him.
I kept a bird's eye view for sure.
A no show by her would be grim.
But the Queen of Sheba came through,
And visited King Solomon.
The King was grateful to me, true,
Gave me fat worms for job well done.

My fame and prestige were assured.
I am Israel's national bird.
