The Heat Of Early Summer Poem by Deanna Samuels

The Heat Of Early Summer

The day opened cloudless
a sky of soft light blue
not a mar could be seen
to reflect such perfect pallet

As the sun rose higher
the warmth of the day
became hotter and hotter,
people sought some shade

Foliage reached higher as though
anxious to catch those sun rays
warming their branches and boughs
allowing ripening fruit to swell

The heat continued the whole day,
no occasional cloud to cool,
the sky, still an unblemished blue
stayed that way till night o'erthrew
