The Haitian Yellow Soup Of Freedom Poem by Hebert Logerie

The Haitian Yellow Soup Of Freedom

Since 1804, the first day of every year
Has been a day where Haitians and friends
Of different nations enjoy the pumpkin soup
Which epitomize the huge Haitian Coup
De force, when Haiti gained its independence
By defeating the most modern army of the era.

Every first hour of the year, Haitians are re-energized
By drinking joumou or pumpkin soup full of calories
Of mixed vegetables, meats and all sort of good stuff
Which nourish our bodies by melting in our mouth
The yellow soup of Freedom gives us strength to survive
The years of struggling. Our ancestors are well and alive.

Our ancestors are well and alive. Their blood is in our veins
We're resilient, brave and strong. We fear no men and no pains.
