The Green World Poem by Christian Muller

The Green World

How many years have I within this wondrous land
Maintained? So long that I have half forgot
My native tongue. I've lost command
Of former thoughts that I thought all men thought.
This magic space has changed me in such ways.
That I can scarce recall the man I was.
This foreign land I call my home. Such days
Where I was loved, where I have loved.
But why do I in mortal mind so yearn
To leave this greenful world? What fool would quit
His paradise? Oh when will humans learn
From Adam's sin? How eas'ly we do sit
In promised lands and dream of darker skies.
Be this the secret of mankind's demise?
