The Greatest Ambition Poem by Daniel P Martin

The Greatest Ambition

There can be no greater feeling than the joy of being loved, to be needed, to feel wanted, to play a part, to see the smile of love etched all over the face.
The timelessness of happiness, togetherness, feeling that each moment could, should fill eternity; stamina to compete, to complete life’s toughest race.

There can be no greater gesture than to subvert helplessness and selfishness, to promote selflessness and love, to radiate hope and strength.
The reassurance of goodness, the honour of chivalrousness, the warm glow from the smallest of personal sacrifices, the will to go to any length.

There can be no greater sorrow than the loneliness of forgottenness, to be yesterday’s comfort blanket, to live a new existence on the outskirts of requirement.
The sadness of superfluousness, the forgotten toy, wearing manfully the scars etched in the mind of a greater time, the value and usefulness drained and spent.

There can be no greater love than the willingness to let go, to allow the heart to be left behind, the acceptance that the future leads to inevitably varied direction.
The resumption of role, the return to selflessness, their happiness is the key to it all, the soul remembers, the heart is refreshed and so to a period of reflection.

There can be no greater offering than to offer it all, to make available all that you are, all that you ever could or should be, to lay bare the very depths of your soul.
The determination to sustain the hand-crafted direction, to be there, to care, to depend, to defend, and above all to love, for love is the greatest ambition and goal.
