U.S. manifest destiny
Required railroads from coast to coast.
So railroad tycoons came to be
In time and place to profit most.
On May 10th,1869,
In Utah from east to west rails
Joined, and in ceremony fine,
Railroad tycoons shared hearty hails.
A golden spike was driven in
To signify this job was done.
The railroad tycoons cheered their win.
It only mattered that they won.

The Golden Spike did not long stay.
Tycoons quickly took it away.
